Learning to use 24-7 Street

The easiest way is to view the site on a computer then when you hover over anything for a few seconds a little note will pop up telling you what it does.

Basically 24-7 Street shows posts from the area around you on a timeline and on a map. On the timeline the most recent are shown first and on the map posts open from markers positioned where the post was put up (but for security reasons not exactly where it was put up).

On both the map and the timeline you can increase or decrease the range of your search and find posts containing your keywords or the poster's name.

3 Screens

Use the 24-7.ST sign to toggle between different screens:

On the MAP posts open from their markers. It works like a marketplace, use the Search to highlight posts whose content contains your keyword or the poster's name. Connect with the poster using the message dropdown and get their reply from the Mail dropdown.

On the TIMELINE the most recent posts in the area around you are shown. It is the main screen and you can search for words in the post's title or text and for posts by people who's names you know. Use the scale ruler to increase or decrease the range. Comment on posts, message the poster and vote posts up the ranking or off the screen. There's a control panel opening from the menu icon where you can edit or delete all your posts and comments.

The COMMENT-TREE is accessed from the link just under the post header It's a more 3 dimensional and interactive way of commenting on posts.

MAP

Shows a map centred on your current location with posts opening from markers on the map.
• You should see a marker on the map at your current location
• A new type of search, Search Highlighting, highlights with a halo markers whose posts contain the name or keyword being searched.
• After typing in your search word no need to press return, on a touch screen press done to get rid of the keyboard then pinch or spay to find highlights.
• You can scale in and out of the map using pinch or splay on a touch screen or by double clicking the screen on a computer. You can explore different areas by moving the map with your fingers.
• Touch the red sphere at the bottom of the screen to reset your current location and if that doesn't seem accurate enough touch it again.
• Posts open from their markers on the map.
• Lightening flash = Post from mobile. Target = Post from computer.
• Mobile posts self-delete after 2 weeks. Computer posts delete after 1 month.
• Message the poster using the "message" dropdown below the post. You can't publicly comment on the post in this way to do so go to the Timeline.
• Get replies to your messages by opening the Message window from the red MAIL button on the nav bar. You can engage in a dialogue with the poster from the Messages window.
• Put up your own notices by opening the Notice window from the blue POST button on the nav bar. Notices posted from the TIMELINE are also shown on the MAP and vice-versa.
• The Map is good for showing footpaths!
• The NEWS button links to TIMELINE screen.
• Stuck? Reload the screen from the browser button.

The Map screen is like an online Marketplace. You can find people nearby with similar interests by typing keywords into Search, send messages to them using the dropdown below the post then receive their replies in the MAIL window.

Announce up and coming events, let people know about local issues, publicise the trade or service you provide. Find local tradespeople, items for sale or recycled, special offers at shops and restaurants and much more.

NOTE: To edit or delete a post go to the Timeline screen, touch the Menu icon on the right of the navigation bar and your Control Panel will open. Remember - To edit or delete a post you must be in the same place you were when you put it up!

TIMELINE

The Timeline is the main screen, it shows posts put up by people in the surrounding area. Scroll through the posts, you can add comments, reply to comments, send messages etc. etc. You can also vote posts up or down using the red and black dots. (max 2 votes/day). If a post gets more than -5 votes it is deleted.

Use 'finder' to search for posts containing keywords or names of people you know. Increase or decrease the range of your search by touching the black and white scale bar.

Post up your own notices:
The title is in caps - max 75 characters.
Upload images; tif, jpg or gif. Video: mov or mp4. Or embed youtube videos by entering their 11 character IDs.
Remember to include keywords in your text if you want people to find you and a name or hashtag if you want people to find you by your name, screen name or category.

To edit or delete posts or to send or receive messages use the Control panel accessed from the Menu icon, top right. You can also sign up for notifications so that you get messages and a daily digest local posts sent to your email address.

Touch the Comment-Tree button just below the post title to link to the new debate and commentary screen.

COMMENT-TREE

The commentary or Comment-Tree is a new and more visually stimulating and interactive way of commenting on posts (and debating topics).
On a mobile pinch and splay the screen to focus on the spheres then touch the star to open the post or the yellow or white spheres to open comments and replies.
Reload the screen to view the comments and replies in different random positions.
The Comment-Tree presents comments in a 2 dimensional field and is intended to free up the commentary on posts and topics in a revolutionary way. Enabling anonymous posting enables people to freely speak the truth about how they feel about something at the same time the ability to vote on comments and replies enables people involved in the debate to vote off stupid or obscene comments.

Search for keywords in the title or text of posts or for the name or hashtag of the poster.

On the MAP screen a new type of search highlights markers whose posts contain names or keywords; a purple halo indicates a keyword in the title, green if the keyword is in the text and cyan if a name corresponds.

On the TIMELINE there is a powerful search that 'finds' posts whose title or text contain the keyword or where the name or hashtag correspond.

You can scale out on the MAP to increase the range of the search or to search in a different area.
On the Timeline you can scale your search in or out by touching the ruler under the navigation bar - from up to half a mile away to up to 500 miles away.

Voting

• Voting enables local network users to get rid of rude, unfinished or silly posts.

• Posts can be voted up the ranking or down and potentially off the network.

• If the dislikes exceed likes by more than 5(currently) the post is voted off.

• You can't vote on posts more than 100 miles away and voting does not operate on the Map screen.

• Posts with more Likes get a higher ranking on the Timeline

• 24-7 Street is an open network. All participants are welcomed. The voting system enables local network users to influence and curate the content in their area rather than this being left to people at the top.

Control Panel

• Change or delete your posts or send and receive messages from the Control Panel.

• The Control Panel opens from the Menu icon on the top right of the Timeline.

• Remember, 'your location is your ID'. As long as you access the site from the same location you were in when you posted you can edit and reply to messages about a post, the diameter of the area you need to be within is approx. 25 paces.

• There is no Control Panel on the Map screen, only messaging.<>

Email Notifications

Sign up for a daily digest of local posts and receive email notifications when you get enquiries. Enter your email address in the form at the bottom of the control panel.
